The late Right Reverend Sydney Cyril Bulley[1] was born on 12 June 1907 and educated at the University of Durham[2]. He began his ministry as a curate at Newark[3] and was then successively Vicar of Worksop, Rural Dean of Mansfield, Director of Religious Education within the Diocese of Carlisle and Archdeacon of Westmorland before his elevation to the Episcopate, initially as Suffragan to the Bishop of Carlisle (who he in turn succeeded).[4] A noted author[5] and Cumbrian enthusiast[6],he died on 20 November 1989.
